Once upon a time, Sufism was a matter of pursuit for the saints, a spiritual esoteric movement confined to the four walls of mosques and khanqahs. But in the modern era, especially among the young people of the digital age, there is a surprising attraction to Sufism. Instagram reels, YouTube videos, social media posts and self-exploratory books – the words of Rumi, Ibn Arabi or Hafez are everywhere. The question arises: why is Sufism suddenly becoming popular among the youth? In this article, we will explore the layers of that answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Emptiness and spiritual hunger of modern life
    Today’s youth are running in the midst of technology, information and a fast-paced life. But this technology has created a kind of inner emptiness:<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Social media addiction<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Mental depression and suicidal tendencies<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Meaningless relationships and self-isolation
    The spiritual search that begins to fill this emptiness brings them to the door of Sufism. Because Sufism is not just knowledge, it is a path to satisfaction of the heart. If you search for the truth deep in your heart, you will find Allah one day.\u2014 Maulana Rumi (may Allah have mercy on him).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. The message of love and humanity
    The center of Sufism is love. This love is not only for God, but for all creation. Today, the young generation is looking for the language of love against hatred, religious narrowness and conflict, they want humanity, they want openness and sincerity in faith.     The modern young generation is leaning towards the self-development and Mindfulness trend. They are interested in the path of meditation, patience, and self-discipline. Sufism also practices these things.
    Dhikr: Meditation of the heart
    Muraqabah: Deep connection between the soul and the Creator
    Tawbah and Tazkiya: Purification of the soul
    These are not alternatives to modern Mindfulness, but ancient Islamic alternatives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
