Sufism is the highest peak of the spiritual trend of Islam. Where, beyond just observing religious rules, the central importance is to directly realize the mercy and greatness of Allah by entering the depths of the heart. The great saints of this path have achieved a position of unity with the Creator not only through knowledge and theoretical light, but also through extraordinary miracles in their spiritual journey. The amazing events of their lives are not just history, but also a source of deep spiritual education and inspiration.
In today’s discussion, I will highlight the aspects of the miraculous lives of three great men — Bayezid Bostami, Mansur al-Hallaj and Jalaluddin Rumi. The lives and miracles of these three saints teach us how the best goal of human life lies in spiritual wisdom and love of Allah.
- Hazrat Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi: The Intimate Servant of Allah in the Language of Love
The King of Love, Jalaluddin Rumi (604-672 AH, 1207-1273 AD) is a unique shining star in the history of Sufism. There are extraordinary miraculous and spiritual events throughout his life, which still stir deep emotions in our hearts.
Maulana Rumi’s First Vision: The most amazing event in Rumi’s life was his meeting with Hazrat Shams Tabrizi. One day, in front of Shams Tabrizi, Rumi became so intoxicated with the obsession of crazy love that he lost track of time. The incident of self-immolation: Rumi describes a kind of ‘self-immolation’ or self-sacrifice in the stage of his Tawajjuh and surrender, where he wants to say that his personality-soul is set on fire and burned to ashes in the fire of Allah. This was his deep miraculous experience – a kind of state of self-sacrifice that occurs in the lives of many saints.
Rumi’s miraculous visions and dreams: He had many dreams in which spiritual knowledge and messages from Allah were received directly. His ‘messary’ poems are also an expression of this miraculous experience.

- Hazrat al-Hallaj: The Supreme Example of Sacrifice
Muhammad ibn Musa al-Hallaj (256-306 AH, 870-920 AD) was a courageous and unforgettable Sufi who dedicated his life to the love of Allah, for which even death was grateful.
Al-Hallaj’s Miracles and Sacrifice: “أنا الحق” (Ana al-Haq) – I am the Truth: Al-Hallaj’s most discussed and controversial statement was Ana al-Haq or I am the Truth. It was a revolutionary statement in religious discourse. By saying this, he indicated his union with God by removing the personal self. Although this was considered a rebellion in the society of that time, in Sufism it was an expression of the state of extinction and immortality.
Persistent pursuit and imprisonment: Al-Hallaj’s life was filled with numerous miracles. Once he was imprisoned for a long time, where he was immersed in prayer and meditation. One day he came out of his meditation and said miraculously, “I am like a tree whose roots have penetrated deep into the earth.”
Death and martyrdom: His most amazing event was his preparation for death and the manifestation of a calm soul at the time of death. He was immersed in the love of Allah while being hanged, uttering from his mouth, “Ya Haqq – O Truth!” His death was the ultimate sign of self-sacrifice, which is a great inspiration for the Sufis.
Significance of Al-Hallaj’s miraculous teachings: Hallaj’s life teaches us that true spirituality never follows the safe path. When the heart is filled with the love of Allah, all social and religious barriers are broken. Through his miracles and sacrifice, it is understood that true annihilation means the complete dissolution of one’s own existence. Al-Hallaj was a living proof of that path.
- Hazrat Bayazid Bostami: A Saint Immersed in the Stream of Light
Bayazid Bostami (181-263 AH, 797-876 AD) was one of the oldest and greatest saints of Sufism. His miraculous life and extraordinary words still illuminate the spiritual world today.
Light-like radiance: Bayazid Bostami once awoke with such a light-like radiance that people around him thought he possessed some divine power. A flash of light emanated from his body that ordinary people could not understand.
Example of death and speech: Bayazid Bostami said, I have died in death, so I do not know what the fear of life is? This is a sign of his state of death, where his own existence has disappeared, only the existence of Allah remains.
Miraculous trance: Once he became absorbed in meditation for a long time, and sat as still as a tree. It is said that the surrounding environment would be illuminated by his presence.
The significance of Bayezid Bostami’s miraculous teachings: Bayezid Bostami’s life and his miracles teach us that spiritual knowledge is not just a matter of consciousness, it is a state where a person surrenders himself and merges with God. His words inspire us that the real purpose of life is not to find oneself, but to lose one’s own existence and merge with God.

Therefore, by learning from their lives, we can enrich our own spiritual journey and pave the way for Allah’s infinite mercy and grace.
